Density waves in protoplanetary discs excited by eccentric planets: linear theory

چکیده

Spiral density waves observed in protoplanetary discs have often been used to infer the presence of embedded planets. This inference relies both on simulations as well linear theory planet-disc interaction developed for planets circular orbits predict morphology wake. In this work we develop and implement a framework calculating structure wave gaseous disc driven by an eccentric planet. Our approach takes into account essential azimuthal temporal periodicities problem, allowing us treat any periodic perturbing potential (i.e. not only that planet). We test our excited eccentric, low-mass planet globally isothermal compare results recent direct numerical (and heuristic wavelet analysis) same problem Zhu Zhang. find excellent agreement with simulations, capturing all complex features including spiral bifurcations, crossings planet-wave detachments, improved accuracy detail compared method. illustrates power reproducing complicated time-dependent wakes, presenting it valuable tool future studies interactions.

Have protoplanetary discs formed planets

It has recently been noted that many discs around T Tauri stars appear to comprise only a few Jupiter masses of gas and dust. Using millimetre surveys of discs within six local star formation regions, we confirm this result, and find that only a few per cent of young stars have enough circumstellar material to build gas giant planets, in standard core accretion models. Since the frequency of ob...

Non-linear fluid dynamics of eccentric discs

A new theory of eccentric accretion discs is presented. Starting from the basic fluid-dynamical equations in three dimensions, I derive the fundamental set of onedimensional equations that describe how the mass, angular momentum and eccentricity vector of a thin disc evolve as a result of internal stresses and external forcing. The analysis is asymptotically exact in the limit of a thin disc, a...

Secondary dust density waves excited by nonlinear dust acoustic waves

Secondary dust density waves were observed in conjunction with high amplitude ðnd=nd0 > 2Þ dust acoustic waves (DAW) that were spontaneously excited in a dc glow discharge dusty plasma in the moderately coupled, C 1; state. The high amplitude dust acoustic waves produced large dust particle oscillations, displacements, and trapping. Secondary dust density waves were excited in the wave troughs ...

Eccentric Behavior of Eccentric Planets

Recent increases in the discovery of high multiplicity Sub-Jovian planetary systems, in addition to discoveries of giant planets of high eccentricities in these multiple body systems, lead to questions into their origins and evolution. The study of secular interactions is not new, however it has only recently been applied to exoplanetary systems. These systems sometimes fall far from the classi...

Magnetorotational instability in protoplanetary discs

We investigate the linear growth and vertical structure of the magnetorotational instability (MRI) in weakly ionised, stratified accretion discs. The magnetic field is initially vertical and dust grains are assumed to have settled towards the midplane, so charges are carried by electrons and ions only. Solutions are obtained at representative radial locations from the central protostar for diff...
